REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> <br /> DATE: February 20, 2008 Re: Comm. 995 <br /> <br /> PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa <br /> 78-128 Ehukai Street <br /> Kailua-Kona, HI <br /> TIME: 2:00 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication 995, reports as follows: <br /> Communication 995 from Mayor Harry Kim, dated January 30, 2008, nominates Ms. Karen <br /> Maedo, of Council District 2, to the County of Hawaii Board of Appeals. Ms. Maedo is a <br /> lifelong resident of Hawaii and is presently employed as a financial advisor at LPL Financial. <br /> From 1969 to 2000, Ms. Maedo was employed by the Department of Education as a teacher and <br /> administrator. Ms. Maedo states she is not affiliated with any political party and, if confirmed, <br /> will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2012, filling one of two positions that became <br /> vacant on December 31, 2007. <br /> Pursuant to Section 13-4, Hawaii County Charter, the County of Hawaii Board of Appeals shall <br /> consist of members appointed by the Mayor, and confirmed by the Council. <br /> At the February 20, 2008 Planning Committee meeting, Ms. Maedo was present via video <br /> conference at the Hilo Councilroom. Corporation Counsel Lincoln Ashida spoke of <br /> Ms. Maedo's dedication and commitment to everything she is involved with and requested that <br /> the Council confirm Ms. Maedo's appointment to the Board of Appeals. Council Member <br /> Donald Ikeda stated that he knows Ms. Maedo very well and expressed his wholehearted support <br /> of her appointment. <br /> Ms. Maedo expressed her gratitude for being appointed and stated she looked forward to learning <br /> about government and that she would do her very best and work earnestly for the best interest of <br /> the community. <br /> PC Report No. 70 <br /> <br />
