To: Hawaii County Council

RE: TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF BILL 224
Relating To Prohibition of Smoking In Certain Places

Council Hearing: March 12, 2008

Aloha.

My name is Jamie Parker and I'm a junior at Kealakehe High School. I want Bill 224 to
pass because secondhand smoke is such a dangerous hazard to our health. Cigarette butts
make the beaches a not clean environment. Children and fish think cigarette butts are
food and eat them. Eating the chemicals found in cigarettes is not good.

Being a young Hawaii girl that has lived here all my life, going to the beach is a part of
life. When there are people on the beaches smoking, it's really hard to enjoy nature's
beauty. It would really change things in some really good ways if we passed Bill 224.

Mahalo,

Jamie Parker
