Graduation <br /> <br /> <br /> 8 Ways To Say NO! Take charge of your life! That was the message conveyed <br /> loud and clear last week as about three dozen WMS 7th Graders <br /> reviewed what they had learned over the past several weeks as <br /> 1. Say "No Thanks" part of a series of Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) <br /> classes conducted by their teachers with guidance from South Ko- <br /> 2. Give an excuse or a reason hala Community Policing Officer Brad Feliciano. <br /> Students attending the graduation celebration discussed a deck <br /> 3. Repeated Refusal or Keep sion-making model they had studied along with strategies and <br /> skills to say no, including a firm voice, looking the other person in <br /> Saying "No" the eye, "I' statements and sticking to their guns. <br /> Students also reviewed how the legal and court systems work, and <br /> 4., Walk Away deceptive advertising techniques used to convince consumers - <br /> especially minors - that alcohol, drugs and tobacco are 'cool" and <br /> 5. Change the Subject that it's the only way to have fun...that everyone's doing it. (Not <br /> true, reminded Officer Feliciano and their teachers.) <br /> 6. AVoid the Situation Each student had their own workbook reviewed and signed by Offi- <br /> cer Feliciano and they were encouraged to keep and review the <br /> 7. Cold Shoulder booklet periodically. And each was given a collection of goodies, <br /> each item in their own way a reminder of lessons learned. And <br /> then it was party time - time to enjoy friends and show off the <br /> 8.
