BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> <br /> A federal Title V Juvenile Delinquency Prevention grant was awarded by the Juvenile Justice <br /> State Advisory Council and the State of Hawaii, Office of Youth Services to the County of <br /> Hawaii . The grant is awarded to develop a community based delinquency prevention program <br /> in Ka'u. <br /> The Kokua Ka'u project will involve activities to combat Extreme Economic Deprivation by <br /> teaching youth marketable skills as well as to combat Academic Failure Beginning in Late <br /> Elementary School. <br /> A copy of the grant application and award letter is attached. <br /> <br /> Council Action is necessary to accept and appropriate funds to administer the program. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> SIGNED: DATE: 1rJl ~n <br /> f Department Head <br />
