• Y - Although this facility will cause emissions into the air, it will also cause a reduction in
emissions froM HELCO'S oil burner, as well as from not trucking to Puuanalulu.
Regardless, we should continue to get more information.
• Y - Yes! We need an alternative to trucking thru Waimea/Waikoloa! Waste-to-energy
sounds like the "greenest" thing to do. Mahalo!
• Y - Do continue research on alternatives!
• Y - Do look at alternatives (gasification)?
• Y - Possible to concurrently start the EIS Process (cost estimates, REP, etc.)?
• Y - Don't close the door on this or any option. The fact that you continue keeps the problem
before the public regardless of how we finally resolve it.
• Y - Go forward.
• Y - Please continue.
• Y - Need much more info. Need to remove current obstacles to recycling. Where do
appliances go? Who "owns & manages"? Ash weight vs. metals weighT? Compare curve
to start up truck, barge etc.
• Y - We need all the help to keep our earth clean.
• Y - I support your ongoing efforts to solve the waste problem. Also support continuing
enhanced recycling on the whole island/county as well.
• Y - This is an extremely important issue that needs to be dealt with very soon.

• Y - A no brainer - no liability and no limits of any action. Maybe something can be learned
from results. I do feel there is a better company out there to choose from other than
Wheelabrator, but meanwhile...
• N- My preference is mandatory recycling & landfill in Hilo.
• N- Avoid getting sucked into the momentum if this is approved. Due diligence for such a
large expenditure should be major & include other potential options..
• N- Backtrack & introduce legislation to construct a full scale sort station in East Hawaii.
Then mandate an aggressive recycling program including point of sale restrictions (returning
containers to point of sale etc.
• N- Let's be visionary.
• N- Take close look at GA gasification and other options as described by presenters. Sending
trash to mainland is silly. Focus on zero waste, cradle-to-cradle.
• N- Use one of the old quarries in the area instead of building a new waste-to-energy facility.
• Y - Long Term - good idea.
• Y- Should be the fore front of green since we are on an island.
• Y - Move forward.
• Y - Please let's be up to date and look forward! This is long overdue!
• Y - No trucking trash thru Waikoloa!
• Y - I agree that aggressive recycling is needed.
• Y - Go for it!
• Y - We need to move forward. Need to push recycling!
• Y - I really must leave this to your personal best judgment.
• Y - I feel you have the information you need to make the best decision.
• Y - Move forward Fast.
Comm.
