These projects would provide more
appropriate routes for regional aGce: s and regional through traffic; and would allow the,
Waimea town roadways to better- Nerve local traffic, potentially providing more opportunities
for alternatives modes such as transit, biking, and walking.
These roadway projects are several years in the future. Therefore, the County of Hawaii
Planning Department in consultation with the Department of Public Works, retained PB
Americas, Inc. (PB) to conduct this Waimea Traffic Circulation Study to identify how traffic
circulation within Waimea town could be improved and- .how the local roadway network
interfaces with the proposed regional roadway improvements. The Waimea Traffic
Circulation Study also prioritizes the proposed roadway improvements planned and
identifies ways to integrate future roadway projects into the existing roadway network for the
Waimea area. It also examines how local traffic improvements can incorporate community
desires for alternative modes and "sense of place." It looks at a multi -modal approach to
transportation mobility within Waimea Town, incorporating transit and bicycle/pedestrian
modes into its recommendations.
County of Hawaff 8 Waimea Traffic Circulation Study
PR Atnertc&sr Cac_ december 2007
