It appears that a communication error has been made <br /> regarding the amount of taxes which should be credited or refunded. <br /> <br /> Based on a request from the taxpayer, Gary asked me to research the ownership problem and any <br /> resulting overpayment in taxes on the parcel. I requested that the mapping personnel on Oahu <br /> research the ownership question by reviewing the former maps. They determined that the claim by <br /> the taxpayer was correct, and that the State of Hawaii did in fact own the 9.42 acres. They were <br /> also able to determine that the parcel straddled the LUC district line, leaving it with 8.30 acres in <br /> conservation and 1.12 acres in agriculture. <br /> <br /> Using the above breakdown, I calculated the assessed value of the 9.42 acres for the tax years <br /> 1990/91 through 1997/98. For the 1998/99 tax year the ownership was corrected to show that the <br /> <br /> State was the owner. The total taxes paid on the parcel by 1250 Oceanside Partners for these <br /> years totaled $41,105. But the amount to be credited is only $ 4-463. the amount of taxes on the <br /> 9.42 acres only. It appears that an error was made in the transmittal of this number to you. <br /> <br /> Attached is my worksheet showing the calculation for the proration of the assessed values and <br /> taxes for the affected years. <br /> <br /> If there is anything else you need please give me a call (ext. #8260). <br />
