The <br />Planning Department is authorized to establish a program for the relocation of owner- <br />occupants residing near the Puna Geothermal Venture's plant and who want to be <br />permanently relocated, and to fund expenditures for the benefit of Lower Puna; including <br />but not limited to, road improvements, water infrastructure development, land acquisition, <br />parks and recreational facility needs, civil defense mass transit improvements. Under the <br />revised County Code, as amended by Ordinance No. 08-37, expenditures under this <br />subsection shall be made in accordance with appropriations adopted by the Hawaii <br />County Council after receiving recommendations from the Planning Director. <br />Through the efforts of Councilmember Emily Naeole and her staff and as recommended <br />by Planning Director Chris Yuen, a number of items are being requested to benefit Lower <br />Puna, using the Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Fund. <br />Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance to amend the Operating Budget and appropriate <br />Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Funds for a) Pahoa Council Office lease, <br />b) 12 new street lights in Puna Makai, c) Bus Driver contract(s) and. purchase of two 33- <br />passenger buses to service Council District 5, and d) Security Guard contract(s) for the <br />Pahoa Community Center. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Planning Department. <br />-~--~. con~rn.
