This <br />increase includes $750,000 toward aRecycling/H15 Education Center that would be located near <br />the reload facility and will replace the current Certified Redemption Center at the Hilo Transfer <br />Station. The education center will include displays to show how deposit beverage container <br />materials are processed after redemption, how it saves natural resources and how other <br />products can be made from the materials. The increase also includes $100,000 for temporary <br />shelters for other Certified Redemption Centers and $50,000 for a Pilot Curbside Study. <br />Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional <br />funds into the Beverage Container Deposit Program account and bringing the total grant <br />appropriation to $1,950,000. <br />Since this request was previously transmitted as Communication No. 1039.44 and discussed <br />during the County Council's FY08-09 budget process, the Department of Environmental <br />Management respectfully request that this be waived from the Finance Committee and to have <br />this bill heard at the Council Meeting scheduled for July 23, 2008. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Environmental <br />Management. <br />--_ <br />William Taka a <br />Director of Finance <br />APPROVED: <br />Harry Kim <br />Mayor <br />Enc. <br />cc: Environmental Mgt <br />~3'~It331 <br />Hawaii County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />comm.
