NO. 293 ~ PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 9:05 a.m. Chairperson and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 293 and attached Bill No. 84, reports as follows: The purpose of Bill No. 84 is to establish speed limits of 25 and 35 miles per hour along Chin Chuck Road in South Hilo. Bill No. 84 would amend chapter 24, article 10, division 1, section 24-255, schedule 3 (25 mile per hour limit), subsection (c) South Hilo, by adding the following item to be appropriately numbered: "U Chin Chuck Road. be ig nning at a point 1.6 miles west of the Hawaii Belt Road and extendin~~ .7 mile in the westerly direction to the end of the Waved section of Chin Chuck Road." Bill No. 76 would also amend chapter 24, article 1Q division 1, section 24-257, schedule 5 (35 mile per hour limit), subsection (c) South Hilo, by adding the following item to be appropriately numbered: Chin Chuck Road. Hawaii Belt Road to a point L6 miles west." Communication No. 293 is a letter from Chief Engineer Donna Fay K. Kiyosaki, dated April 28, 1997, which transmits Bill No. 84 to the Council for its consideration. The Communication notes that the Department of Public Works received a request to establish speed limits along Chin Chuck Road. It also states that after conducting a speed study, the Department found speeds ranging from 2S to 35 mph to be appropriate speed limits for this road. No testimony in opposition to this bill was offered.
