The grant money will be used to supplement
County funds in an effort to update FEMA Floodplains in North Kona. More specifically, to do
flood studies on five drainageways located in South Kona, described as follows: Waiaha
Drainageway, Splitflows & Tributaries; Horseshoe Bend Drainageway; Holualoa Drainageway;
Unnamed Zone A Drainageway (located between Holualoa and Kaumalumalu); and
Kaumalumalu Drainageway, & Tributaries.
It should be noted that a Cooperating Technical Partners Memorandum of Agreement exists
between FEMA and the County of Hawai'i, as authorized by Resolution No. 11-03, and further
amended by Resolution No. 148-04. This enabled the County to formalize its collaboration with
FEMA in the flood hazard identification and mapping processes.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the
$250,000 to the Kona Flood Studies (FEMA) account.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Public Works.
f,
044--
William Takalba
Director of Finance
Harry Kim
Mayor ,A/ Q,
O
Enc.
