Crawford Depury Director 0 c� i) =D N _ cn On July 21, 2008, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved the County of Hawai'i, Department of Public Works' $250,000 Cooperative Technical Partners, Grant Application to do flood studies in North Kona. The grant money will be used to supplement County funds in an effort to update FEMA Floodplains in North Kona. More specifically, to do flood studies on five drainageways located in South Kona, described as follows: Waiaha Drainageway, Splitflows & Tributaries; Horseshoe Bend Drainageway; Holualoa Drainageway; Unnamed Zone A Drainageway (located between Holualoa and Kaumalumalu); and Kaumalumalu Drainageway, & Tributaries. It should be noted that a Cooperating Technical Partners Memorandum of Agreement exists between FEMA and the County of Hawai'i, as authorized by Resolution No. 11-03, and further amended by Resolution No. 148-04. This enabled the County to formalize its collaboration with FEMA in the flood hazard identification and mapping processes. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the $250,000 to the Kona Flood Studies (FEMA) account.
