Crawford Depu p~ U (recror ~) N_ N ~n ,r- - N t r .. n . .. „: -_ `~ ~ 3 = I'' I-f . l "" m 1 ~; ;- ~ W r G.l Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Capital Budget by appropriating an additional $2,087,000 to the County's portion of Phase I of the Kaloko Housing Program project, bringing the total appropriation to $7,500,000 for this fiscal year. This bill also eliminates the Federal share appropriation of $5,563,000 that is included in the FY 2008-09 budget. The County, in collaboration with community members, approached the 2008 State Legislature with a $12 million request for its Kaloko Housing Program. By the end of the session, the County was able to secure an appropriation of $1.454 million in Capital Improvement Project funds. Simultaneously, the County also submitted a Congressional request (for the same amount of $12 million) for a federal Economic Development Initiative grant for the project. Recently, the Office of Housing and Community Development was informed that its federal request was not funded. The $7.5 million appropriation, to be used for Phase I of the project, should complete 24 transitional housing units that will replace the Kawaihae Transitional Housing Program, which is scheduled for closure in June of 2009.
