No. 715-08 <br /> PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Hotel <br /> 78-128 `Ehukai Street <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:30 a.m. <br /> <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 715-08, reports as follows: <br /> <br /> Resolution No. 715-08, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 341 by Director of Finance William Takaba, via <br /> Communication No. 1365, dated July 23, 2008, authorizes the receipt and expenditure of State funding <br /> appropriated by the State Legislature pursuant to Act 213, Session Laws of Hawaii 2007, for community anti- <br /> drug efforts on the island of Hawaii. <br /> <br /> The State of Hawaii Legislature enacted Act 213, Session Laws of Hawaii 2007, which appropriated funds for <br /> the County of Hawaii to continue its community-based anti-drug education, awareness, and prevention <br /> program. These funds is to be utilized for providing grants to community organizations and grassroots groups <br /> to undertake projects that promote drug prevention awareness and education, and will be administered under the <br /> Department of Research and Development's Healing our Island program. <br /> <br /> Ms. Nancy Crawford of the Finance Department clarified that the funds will be used to provide organizations <br /> with the opportunity to educate their communities. <br /> <br /> Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County Departments must obtain the consent of the Council <br /> to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of <br /> the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with <br /> projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 715-08, and <br /> recommends its adoption. <br /> <br /> la <br /> <br /> AYES NOES A&E Ex Respectfully submitted, <br /> FORD X <br /> HIGA X COMMI EE ON FINANCE <br /> HOFFMANN X <br /> IKEDA X <br /> JACOBSON X <br /> NAEOLE X <br /> FILAGO X DOMINIC YAGONG, C IR <br /> YAGONG X FC REPORT N 31 <br /> YOSHIMOTO X ADOPTED: <br />
