No. 716-08 <br /> PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Hotel <br /> 78-128 `Ehukai Street <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:30 a.m. <br /> <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 716-08, reports as follows: <br /> <br /> Resolution No. 716-08, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 342 by Director of Finance William Takaba, via <br /> Communication No. 1366, dated July 24, 2008, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement <br /> with the State of Hawaii Department of Health, for the creation of the Balanced Transportation Coordinator <br /> Position grant. <br /> <br /> The State of Hawaii Department of Heath, Tobacco Settlement Project Office has authorized funding of <br /> $72,138 to the Hawaii County Planning Department for the creation of a Balanced Transportation Coordinator <br /> position. In a partnership with the Department of Health's Healthy Hawaii Initiative, the County of Hawaii is <br /> collaborating to increase awareness of the direct relationship between healthy communities and built <br /> environments that ensure and promote bicycle, pedestrian and non-motorized modes of transportation. The <br /> coordinator will be responsible for initiating, coordinating and developing a county-wide program/plan to <br /> ensure bicycle, pedestrian and non-motorized modes of transportation are incorporated into the County's <br /> infrastructure along with transit.
