In a partnership with the Department of Health's Healthy <br /> Hawai'i Initiative, the County of Hawai'i is collaborating to increase awareness of the direct <br /> relationship between healthy communities and built environments that ensure and promote bicycle, <br /> pedestrian and non-motorized modes of transportation. The Balanced Transportation Coordinator <br /> position will be responsible for initiating, coordinating and developing a county-wide program/plan <br /> to ensure bicycle, pedestrian and non-motorized modes of transportation are incorporated into the <br /> County's infrastructure along with transit. The position will also serve as the lead and liaison in the <br /> Planning Department representing multi-modal interests including, but not limited to, supporting <br /> access and use of mass transit; increasing the use of alternate modes of transportation; and <br /> development of recreational traits. <br /> Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai'i <br /> Department of Health. <br /> Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the $72,138 <br /> to the Balanced Transportation Coordinator account. <br /> If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Planning Department. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> William Tak a <br /> Director of lnance <br /> <br /> APPROVED: <br /> <br /> <br /> Harry Kim <br /> Mayor <br /> <br /> Enc.
