WHEREAS, in 2001, a delegation consisting of over 30 paddlers, their chaperones, <br />family and friends, other community members accompanied former Hawaii Council Chair <br />James Arakaki to Okinawa to participate in the 2001 Nago City Haari Festival; and <br />WHEREAS, the former Nago City's Mayor Tateo Kishimoto welcomed the Hilo <br />delegation and hosted the entire group during its weeklong stay; and <br />WHEREAS, to commemorate the 2008 Hui Okinawa Haari Boat Race Festival, the <br />current mayor of Nago City, Mayor Yoshikazu Shimabukuro, brought his championship haazi <br />team to Hilo to compete in the race; and <br />WHEREAS, former Mayor Tetsuya Higa, now Chairman of the Boazd of Meio <br />University (which enjoys asister-university relationship with the University of Hawaii at Hilo) <br />sent his Eisa (Okinawan dance) group of talented youth who play sanshin, taiko and pazanku <br />drums to celebrate the cultural event and strengthen our sister city bond with Nago City; and <br />WHEREAS, to show our deep appreciation to Nago City and its current and former <br />mayors for all they have done for our county, Mayor Harry Kim and the Hawaii County Council <br />hosted Mayor Shimabukuro and his delegation to a dinner during their recent visit; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to <br />the Office of the Mayor to support hosting the sister city relationship with Nago City; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />following amount are hereby transferred/appropriated asset forth below: <br />FUND: General <br />AMOUNT OF <br />APPROPRIATION: $2,000 <br />OUT AND FROM: <br />010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $2,000 <br />CREDITED TO: <br />010.111.5111.15 Office of the Mayor $2,000 <br />Mayor's Entertainment <br />(Nago City-sister city) <br />
