PUNA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN <br />September 2008 <br />PROLOGUE <br />OLELO HOAKAKA <br />What we have in common is far greater than what separates us. <br />We need,~to become teachers of generosity through our compassionate deeds, actions, and <br />,, example. <br />We need to address globalization, environmental changes, widespread poverty, and rapid' <br />human population growth. <br />Existing political and economic models need to be re-conceptualized, transformed, and <br />balanced. <br />A cosmic sense of purpose and belief, coupled with critical and creative thinking will help us see <br />the possibilities of the future. <br />It's a kakou thing - we are all connected. <br />Hawaiians have been here for ~centuriesJ. <br />The Po'e Kahiko, the People of Old, mastered environmentalism and sustainability. <br />In these times, if we look back to the wisdom and ways of our ancestors, we could better move <br />j forward. <br />~ 'E kuleana kakou[ <br />It's everyone's responsibility) <br />Luana Jones, Puna resident <br />
