REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND <br />INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS <br />DATE: September 9, 2008 Re: Comm. No. 1431Bes. 740-08 <br />PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa <br />78-128 Ehukai Street <br />Kailua-Kona,'HI 96740 <br />TIME: 2;15 p.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication <br />No. 1431, regarding Resolution 740-08, reports as follows: <br />Resolution 740-08, transmitted by Council Chair Pete Hoffmann, via Communication No. 1431 dated <br />July 29, 2008, urging the Administration to Release the Funds of the Award of a $500,000 Grant to the <br />Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial, Inc (HIVM). Funds will be used to progress to Phase 2 of the HNM <br />project; establishing a veteran's center and housing project to meet the needs of the island's veteran <br />community. <br />There was one testimony from the public in support of this proposed bill. ' <br />Council member Dominic Yagong questioned why this resolution was necessary to urge Administration to <br />release the award of a State grant to HIVM. Council Chair Hoffmann stated the proposed resolution was <br />deemed necessary by Administration to officially transfer funds before the allocation of the State grant is <br />made to Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial, Ina (HIVM).
