Aggressive driving, defined by the National Highway Traffic Safety <br />Administration as occurring when "an individual commits a combination of moving traffic <br />offenses so as to endanger other persons or property", has become a serious problem on <br />our roadways.. The goal of this project is to reduce the number of fatal crashes on Queen <br />Ka'ahumanu Highway, Hawaii Belt Road Route 190, and Route 11 in the Kona, South <br />Kohala, and Ka`u Districts and to also increase the amount of aggressive driving citations in <br />these areas. <br />Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of <br />Hawaii Department of Transportation for this grant. <br />Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this <br />$36,000 Aggressive Driving Project Grant. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Hawaii County Police <br />Department. <br />William Tak ba <br />Director of Finance <br />APPROVED: <br />Harry Kim ' <br />~' Mayor Comm.
