According to the Hawaii County Energy Sustainability Plan dated <br />October 3, 2007, County residents can realize both financial savings and a reduction in the use of <br />fossil fuel by making informed energy choices. <br />The resolution calls upon the R & D, in partnership with The kohala Center, to create a website <br />by March 1, 2009, to include the following: 1) Energy usage calculations for major types of <br />appliances calculated to October 2008 HELCO, rates; 2) Links to government sites regarding <br />auto fuel efficiency, with some Hawaii Island'specific examples of how to calculate the yearly <br />costs of fuel for various vehicles; 3) Energy-saving practices for homeowners; 4) Articles on <br />solaz hot water and solar electric systems for the home; 5) A link to the County's Hele On Bus <br />website to encourage use of public transport; 6) Updates on important energy-related legislation <br />that has passed at the county, state, and federal level; and 7) Other relevant energy-related <br />information or links.
