REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: January 7, 1997 Re: C-58 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 1:40 p.m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Ililo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning to which was referred Resolution No. 20, transmitted by Council <br /> member J. Curtis Tyler, III via Communication No. 58, dated December 23, 1996, relating to a <br /> comprehensive plan for the Kalaoa area of North Kona, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Resolution No. 20 is to request that the Mayor through the Planning Director, to <br /> initiate a comprehensive plan to interlink and enhance the community of Kalaoa through publicly <br /> and privately funded improvements, and to establish an advisory cotmnittee of representatives <br /> from the various neighborhoods to guide and assist in planning. <br /> The plan would include a (1) a comprehensive traffic plan, including all proposed cross <br /> connections; (2) Mamalahoa Highway improvements with appropriate ttuning lanes; <br /> (3) locations for a volunteer fire station and park sites; and (4) water infrastructure <br /> improvements. <br /> "I~he Kalaoa area is one of the fastest growing and the single lazgest residential community in <br /> West Hawaii lacking proper infrastructure to support the subdivisions of Kona Acres, Kona <br /> Palisades Estates, Kona Coastview, Kona Wonderview and Kona Highlands. <br /> During Council's consideration of proposed developments in the Kalaoa azea, previous Council <br /> members and the residents of the surrounding subdivisions have repeatedly expressed their <br /> concerns to the needed infrastructure. <br /> Your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of Resolution No. 20 and recommends <br /> its adoption. <br /> CES <br /> AYES NOES A&E EX Respectfully submitted <br /> LEITHEAD-TO~o X COMMITTEE PL G <br /> TYLER X ~ <br /> CHUNG X ' t _ _ <br /> REYNO~os x Y J AN LEITHEAD-TODD HAIR <br /> <br /> SANTANGELO x 1 <br /> <br /> sMiTU x PC REPORT NO. <br /> vpcoNG X ADOPTED: ~iaN ~ 2 lyg~ <br /> pRAKAAI L'.O.
