<br />SAFE COMMUNITY HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAM <br />QUARTERLY REPORT <br />PROJECT TITLE: HPD ROADBLOCK PROGRAM/AL08-02 (O1-H-02) <br />The goal of this program is to reduce the number of alcohol related traffic fatalities by <br />CY 2008. In addition, HPD will also look at increasing the number of DUI arrests at <br />sobriety checkpoints and increasing the number of vehicles checked at these projects by <br />10 percent. <br />STRATEGIES <br />Establish about 100 impaired driving roadblocks with -grant funds and 50 <br />roadblocks with county funds, establishing roadblocks on all major holidays. <br />2. Effect about 80 arrests for impaired driving at grant funded roadblocks and 35 <br />arrests at county funded roadblocks. <br />3. Effect 100 arrests for other violations at grant funded roadblocks and 50 arrests at <br />county funded roadblocks. <br />4. Issue about 300 citations for violations at grant funded roadblocks and 150 <br />citations at county funded roadblocks. <br />5. Screen an estimated 20,310 vehicles while at impaired driving roadblocks. <br />6. Send one (1) officer and one (1) Deputy Prosecutor to attend the National <br />Lifesaver's Conference. <br />7. Send two (2) officers to attend the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Conference. <br />8. Send two (2) officers and one (1) Deputy Prosecutor to the Quarterly Statewide <br />Traffic Commanders Meetings. <br />9. Purchase desktop computer and printer for the Traffic Safety Coordinator to <br />extract and compile alcohol related crash data from the Records Management <br />System (RMS) for educational and statistical applications with the Impaired <br />Driving Task Force. <br />GRANT PERIOD RESULTS: <br />(FOURTH OUARTER/FINAL REPORT) <br />1. Established 18 sobriety checkpoints island wide with grant funds during the <br />fourth. quarter. Checkpoints were established on all major holidays. Established <br />19 sobriety checkpoints utilizing county funds during the fourth quarter. <br />Established 88 sobriety check points island wide with grant funds and 69 <br />County funded sobriety check points in FFY 2008. <br />
