REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT <br />DATE: November 20, 2008 Re: Comm. 1566/Res. 816-08 <br />PLACE: Councilroom <br />Ben Franklin Building, 2"d Floor <br />333 Kilauea Ave. <br />Hilo, Hawaii <br />TIME: 10:30 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Environmental Management, to which was referred Resolution 816-08, <br />reports as follows: <br />Resolution 816-08 was transmitted from Council Chair Pete Hoffmann, via Communication <br />1566, dated October 28, 2008, requests the County of Hawaii to immediately initiate a <br />campaign to protect Hawaii Island from the invasive Little Red Fire Ant. <br />The purpose of this resolution is to urge the administration to designate a person or persons to <br />coordinate efforts to control Little Red Fire Ants (LFA) infestations on the island. <br />There were farmers, researchers, and many other members of the public that testified in favor of <br />the resolution some offering stories of personal experiences that were most helpful for committee <br />members' understanding of what is really happening on the island.
