COUNTY OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE INITIATION OF A SPEED STUDY AT THE 35 MILES PER HOUR AND THE 45 MILES PER HOUR SPEED ZONES ON THE PUAINAKO STREET EXTENSION, SOUTH HILO. WHEREAS, the Puainako Street Extension is currently a county road that may eventually be transferred to the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT); and WHEREAS, discussion at the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations on December 16, 2008, indicated that a speed study on the Puainako Street Extension at the 35 miles per hour and the 45 miles per hour speed zones needs to be done to consider the possibility of speed limit changes; and WHEREAS, the DOT requires a speed study to confirm the appropriateness of speed limits before the road is transferred to DOT ownership; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the County of Hawaii Department of Public Works is requested to initiate a speed study on the Puainako Street Extension at the 35 miles per hour and 45 miles per hour speed zones, and to consider appropriate speed limits and locations; and BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Department of Public Works, Traffic Division Chief, and to the Honorable Mayor of Hawaii County.
