<br />- . <br /> <br />I <br />i. <br />I' <br />I <br /> <br />i <br /> <br />-~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in January 1996, a committee formed of members from the community, <br />Department of Education, Queen Lili'uokalani Children Trust Center, the Department of <br />Hawaiian Homes, Councilman Elroy Osorio and the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and <br />Recreation to embark on a venture to cooperatively plan and build a new, multipurpose <br />gymnasium at KawananakoalHualani Park; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the tremendous need for a new multipurpose facility warrant the necessity <br />for its development for expanded athletic programs, meeting areas for small and large groups, <br />community development of programs to meet individual and group needs, talents, and objectives <br />using Native Hawaiian cultural values as its catalyst to insure the success of future career and <br />educational goals; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the committee estimates that the cost of planning and constructing this new <br />multipurpose facility will be as follows: <br /> <br />1. <br />2. <br /> <br />Plans & Design <br />Construction <br /> <br />$ 250,000.00 <br />2.500.000.00 <br />$2,750,000.00; and <br /> <br />Total Funding <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii believes that it is in the best interest of <br />the children and community of Keaukaha and greater East Hawaii to cooperate with the various <br />governmental and nonprofit organizations to finance the building of a multipurpose gymnasium <br />at KawananakoalHualani Park. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY <br />OF HAW AD that it requests that the Mayor, through the Department of Parks and Recreation, <br />work cooperatively with the State of Hawaii Department of Education, Bishop <br />EstateIKamehameha Schools, Queen Lili'uokalani Children Trust Center, the Office of <br />Hawaiian Affairs, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and the community of Keaukaha to <br />plan, design and construct a new multipurpose gymnasium at KawananakoalHualani Park in <br />Keaukaha. <br />
