<br />-~ <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII .STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 27 9-1- <br />(DRAFT 2) <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SISTER-CITY <br />RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TASMANIA AND THE COUNTY OF HAWAII. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and the Council of Hawaii County have jointly <br />promoted a Sister-City program to foster friendship and understanding among all <br />of the peoples of the world; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such a Sister-City program would benefit the people of the <br />affiliated cities through the exchange of cultural exhibits, educational programs, <br />information relative to economic development of mutual interest and other matters <br />of common interest; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, contacts have been made between officials of the government <br />of the Island State of Tasmania and the County of Hawaii to discuss the <br />establishment of a Sister-City relationship between Tasmania and the County of <br />Hawaii; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the establishment of such an agreement is of particular <br />significance to the people of the County of Hawaii because of historical links <br />between both island cultures; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Tasmania encompasses 26,200 square miles of land and hosts <br />a population of approximately 453,000 residents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii and the Island State of Tasmania are <br />similarly blessed with natural beauty and industries that include tourism, <br />aquaculture, agriculture, fishing, boat building and ranching; and <br />
