<br />,'6 --.:. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />, " <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />2.39 98 <br /> <br />NAMING OF STREETS IN THE COUNTY OF HAW All, STATE OF HAWAII. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is authorized to adopt the street names of <br />unnamed roadways in the County of Hawaii pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22, <br />Hawaii County Code; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission at its regular meeting of February 20, 1998, approved <br />the names for the certain unnamed roadways in Kawaihae Residence Lots, Unit 1, Kawaihae 1st, <br />South Kohala, Hawaii; now therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that said <br />roadways, as indicated on Exhibit" A" of this Resolution, be named as follows: <br /> <br />Road B "Honouli Street" <br /> <br />After a massive rock point in the ocean which <br />resembles a ship's bow. This point is located on <br />the Kohala side of Honokoa Gulch where a <br />former windmill pumped brackish water up the <br />slopes to pu-u-ka-ma-li-i for the pipi to drink. <br /> <br />After a seaport, the site where the second landing <br />was located in Kawaihae Bay. It was the <br />business part of Kawaihae, where a post office, <br />hotel, restaurant, wireless station, warehouse to <br />hold goods to be shipped on steamer day to <br />Honolulu. <br /> <br />Road A "Kalo'olo'o Drive" <br /> <br />Road C "Kapola Street" <br /> <br />A place along the Kohala coast between Pu 'u <br />Ulaula and Waika'Dio. <br /> <br />Road D "Kailapa Street" <br /> <br />After Kailapa who carried mail between <br />Kawaihae and Mahukona. <br /> <br />Road E "Pahonu Place" <br /> <br />Meaning "turtle enclosure," also a rocky point in <br />Kawaihae Bay, the site of the first landing. This <br />is where sandalwood, sweet potato and other <br />goods were shipped and sold during the reign of <br />Kamehameha I. <br /> <br />Road F "Kai'opae Place" <br /> <br />An old Hawaiian fishing village, makai of Akoni <br />Pule Highway between the Hawaiian Home <br />Lands property and Kohala Estates property. <br />The Hawaiians depended on the water from <br />Kai I opae Stream to take care of their needs. <br />
