No. 184.01 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom Bill No. 56 <br /> TIME: 2: 45 p. m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 184.01, dated Mazch 1, <br /> 1997, from Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro transmitting Bill No. 56, the Capital Budget and Program <br /> for Fiscal Yeaz 1997-98, reports as follows: <br /> Pursuant to Section 10-2 of the Hawaii County Charter, Preparation and Submission of Budget and <br /> Capital Program, Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro submitted the 1997-98 Capital Improvement <br /> Program (CIP) and Budget proposals to the County Council for review and approval on March 1, <br /> 1997. The Capital Budget and Program contained 24 projects totalling $15,008,000. <br /> Majority of the projects included in the Capital Budget reflect the County's continuing effort to <br /> <br /> provide for the health and safety of the people of Hawaii County. In the area of public safety, <br /> improvements aze proposed for the Fire and Police Department programs, including the construction <br /> of a Fire Fighter Training Center in Hilo, and a major upgrade and conversion of the Police <br /> communications network to the 800 MHZ system. Various public works improvement projects will <br /> also increase public safety and enhance our communities. In conjunction, the Capital Budget seeks <br /> to provide funds for repairs and improvements at four recreational facilities and to continue to <br /> remove azchitectual barriers at parks islandwide. <br /> Your Committee held meetings and reviews of departmental programs and budgets on Mazch 20, 24 <br /> and 25, 1997. Your Committee reviewed the CIP program and budget on March 25, 1997.
