A large percent of our health care and social services and judicial <br /> costs are directly attributable to the results and effects of domestic violence. <br /> <br /> Applying known preventive measures and information, increasing the awareness that <br /> Domestic Harmony is possible has allowed us to reach out to several thousands of people in <br /> Hawaii County and beyond through the 'Just Say Yes to Domestic Harmony' bumper <br /> stickers- 10,000+ given away already, neon green ribbons for our cause, press releases and <br /> articles, radio and television interviews, interactive website and community outreach through <br /> www.planetpuna.com, poster contests, concerts, public discussions, state legislation, <br /> outreach to birthing organizations, performances, parades and an Ambassador for Domestic <br /> Harmony. <br /> <br /> The value of a more proactive, solution oriented approach has been recognized with <br /> proclamations from *PlanetPuna* the Aloha Planet, Governor Lingle, former Mayor Harry <br /> Kim, who offered several for Domestic Harmony (see www.planetpuna.com for all the <br /> proclamations) as well as for May Gentle Birth Month and others on behalf of the Whales <br /> Great and Small. Hawaii County Council and the Mayor offered proclamations recently to <br /> `Celebrate A Year and a Month of Domestic Harmony.' <br /> <br /> Mayor Kenoi, within one hour of his inauguration and possibly his first official commitment <br /> to a constituency agreed to put forth a proclamation for a Decade of Domestic Harmony next <br /> year. <br /> <br /> Last year proclamations were requested and granted from the mayors of each of the islands. <br /> The Visitor Center at PMRF, Barking Sands houses the Domestic Harmony proclamation <br /> from the late Mayor Bryan Baptiste; Mayor Hannemann is giving a proclamation this New <br /> Year and a request has been initiated to keep this with the Navy at Pearl Harbor. Star <br /> Newland was invited in October to attend a proclamation signing ceremony for domestic <br /> violence and to share materials about Domestic Harmony at Pearl Harbor. <br /> <br /> Hawaiian cultural icon Aka Dooley went to St. Petersburg, Russia to present as part of a <br /> program created by Ms. Newland, `The Consciousness of Harmony from Hawaii with <br />
