COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />BILL NO. 71 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 4 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY <br />CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION AS AMENDED), VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, RELATING TO <br />FEES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`L• <br />SECTION 1. Pumose. The purpose of this measure is to change penalties for <br />delinquency from a percentage calculation to a flat fee. This will simplify penalty calculation for <br />the public and for County staff, and will be consistent with the method for charging similar <br />penalties in the other counties. <br />SECTION 2. Section 24-18, Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 edition) is amended to <br />read as follows: <br />"Section 24-18. Motor vehicle tax; minimum tax; penalties for <br />delinquency. <br />(a) The minimum tax assessed under section 24-17 shall in no case be <br />less than $6. <br />(b) Effective r=~ :; ~ 9o=i July 1, 2009, any vehicle weight tax <br />imposed by section 24-17 for any year and not paid when due, <br />shall become delinquent and a penalty of [ten-percent] $8 for <br />vehicles taxed at the passenger car rate and $20 for vehicles taxed <br />at the commercial vehicle rate shall be added to, and become a part <br />of, the tax collected." <br />SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is <br />~ underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed and stricken material and <br />underscoring need not be included. <br />
