Mr. Kern is a 26-year resident of Hawaii. He is the owner of <br />Green Island Builders, a company that incorporates energy efficiency into the home design, <br />selecting eco-friendly building materials, practicing conservative construction methods and <br />protecting natural resources on and off site. <br />Mr. Kern was one of the original members on the Downtown Hilo Steering committee, and from <br />2003 to 2005 he was an active member of the Downtown Hilo Improvement Association. He <br />currently serves on the Economic Development Committee of the Hawaii Island Chamber of <br />Commerce. In 2007 he won the SBA Young Entrepreneur of theYear for the County of Hawaii. <br />Mr. Kern states that he is not affiliated with any political party.
