Resolution No. 451-06, passed by the County Council on October 16, 2006, <br /> authorized the Director of Finance to enter into negotiations for various parcels collectively <br /> known as Kawa'a or Kawa'a Bay (Kawa). <br /> On October 10, 2007, the County of Hawai'i, applied for funding by grant from the State of <br /> Hawai'i, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Legacy Land Conservation Commission, <br /> for the acquisition of Kawa. The Legacy Land Conservation Commission approved the <br /> County's application and granted the amount of $1,500,000, which the Board of Land and <br /> Natural Resources approved on May 9, 2008. <br /> Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of <br /> Hawai'i Department of Land and Natural Resources, Legacy Land Conservation Commission <br /> and to accept funds for the acquisition of Kawa, District of Ka'u, Island of Hawai'i. <br /> Since the funds must be encumber by the state on or before June 30, 2009, the Department of <br /> Finance is requesting a waiver from the Finance Committee and have this resolution heard at <br /> the next Council meeting scheduled for June 16, 2009. <br /> If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Daryl Inaba of the Property <br /> Management Division. <br /> <br /> <br /> Nancy E.
