(b) Initial placement within grade Deputies appointed to <br /> supervisory positions as defined in the guidelines <br /> adopted by the appointing authority pursuant to this <br /> article may be placed initially in the step designated <br /> by the guidelines. <br /> Section 2-148. Advancement within grade. <br /> (a) Law Grade 1 A deputy may be advanced one step within <br /> grade after having completed a six-month period of <br /> initial employment with the County. Thereafter, upon <br /> completion of subsequent six-month periods of <br /> employment, a deputy may be advanced one step within <br /> grade or not more than two subsequent steps within <br /> grade in a one-year period. <br /> (b) Law Grade 2 A deputy may be advanced one step within <br /> grade after having completed a six-month period of <br /> employment in the step from which the deputy is <br /> advancing or not more than two subsequent steps within <br /> grade in a one-year period. <br /> (c) Advancement within grade is at the discretion of the <br /> appointing authority and shall be based upon merit <br /> principles and governed by the guidelines adopted <br /> pursuant to this article. <br /> Section 2-149.
