Arakaki, Chairman <br /> and Members of the County Council <br /> Page 8 <br /> LAND USE <br /> <br /> • Designate and allocate land uses in appropriate proportions and mix and in <br /> keeping with the social, cultural and physical environments of the County. <br /> <br /> <br /> • Zoning request shall be reviewed with respect to General Plan designation, district <br /> goals, regional plans, State Land Use District, compatibility with adjacent zone <br /> uses, availability of public services and utilities, access, and public need. <br /> <br /> • The compatibility of agricultural and non-agricultural uses should be carefully <br /> reviewed and where appropriate, buffers required. <br /> <br /> • Rural-style residential-agricultural developments, such as new small-scale rural <br /> communities or extensions of existing rural communities, shall be encouraged in <br /> appropriate locations. <br /> <br /> • The county shall encourage the development and maintenance of communities <br /> meeting the needs of its residents in balance with the physical and social <br /> environment. <br /> <br /> • Agricultural land shall be used as one form of open space or green belt. <br /> <br /> ECONOMIC <br /> <br /> • Economic development and improvement shall be in balance with the physical <br /> and social environments of the island of Hawaii. <br /> <br /> • The County of Hawaii shall strive for diversity and stability in its economic <br /> system. <br /> <br /> • The County shall provide an economic environment which allows new, expanded, <br /> or improved economic opportunities that are compatible with the County's natural <br /> and social environment. <br /> <br /> The applicants are proposing to create a two lot subdivision that will consist of a <br /> 2.501 acre portion near Kanehoa Street and a 2.501 acre portion adjacent to the <br /> Keanuiomano Stream for residential/agricultural purposes. <br />
