Joseph Carvalho (4-year term) is a 23 year resident of Kohala who is an active <br />member of the community. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was formerly <br />employed with the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco for over 30 years. <br />Joe has served as the Community Liaison (a project of the Department of <br />Research and Development) for the last four years and was instrumental in the <br />development of the NKCDP especially in the area of community outreach. His <br />other volunteer activities range from serving as a board member of North <br />Kohala's Community Resource Center to Secretary of the Kohala National Guard <br />Alumni. <br />3. Hermann Fernandez (4-year term) is a 20 year resident of the North Kohala <br />district and is presently employed with Surety Kohala as the Treasurer and a <br />Land Manager. Hermann is an avid supporter of youth programs, volunteering <br />with various tennis organizations at the national, West Hawaii, and local level. <br />Hermann was an active member of the NKCDP planning process and was a key <br />player of the Affordable Housing Focus Group. He was able to represent and <br />convey the landowner perspective and help to educate the community regarding <br />some of the considerations that are involved in large-scale development in <br />respects to affordable housing. <br />4. Susan Fischer (3-year term) is a 37 year resident of North Kohala and has <br />worked at length with Non Profit Organizations on community-oriented projects to <br />help preserve natural and historic resources. Her volunteer work is equally <br />extensive and as a resident of the south-western part of North Kohala, brings an <br />important perspective to the table and is instrumental in helping to identify and <br />represent issues from that region of the district. Susan was an active participant <br />of both the South Kohala CDP and the NKCDP as the area she resides in are <br />impacted by both CDPs. <br />5. Marlene Ching (3-year term) was raised in North Kohala and after retiring from <br />the State of California, moved home five years ago. Marlene is an active <br />member of the senior community and participated in the North Kohala CDP by <br />helping the planning process connect with our Kupuna by encouraging them to <br />participate and provided input. She has an active interest in seeing access to <br />mountain and ocean resources reinstated and have continued to work with the <br />community on those issues. <br />6. Richard Leibmann (3-year term) has lived in the North Kohala community for <br />30 years and is self-employed as a farmer and physician. Richard served as <br />treasurer for the Lokahi Garden Community Association and has worked with <br />local schools educating students regarding organic farming. As a practicing <br />organic farmer with a strong interest in sustainable future for Kohala, Richard <br />brings a valued and important perspective to the Action Committee. <br />County of Hawaii is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. <br />
