REQUEST: <br /> <br /> <br /> To satisfy one of the requirements of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, a public <br /> hearing must be held on the porposed uses of the grant funds. In order to meet this requirement we are <br /> requesting that the notification of the grant award be placed on the Council Agenda. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> <br /> The approved FY 2009-10 Operating Budget contains a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) from the U.S. <br /> Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs which had been budgeted by the Hawaii County Police <br /> Department. Enclosed is the Police Department's notification of grant award form to the Council pertaining <br /> to the JAG. <br /> <br /> These funds will be used to assist with the department's training equipment needs and to properly equip the <br /> department's evidence warehouse. Funds will be used to purchase additional shelving to place above the <br /> existing shelves to maximize the space, purchase a forklift to reach this higher shelving and install an alarm <br /> system to secure the evidence in the warehouse.
