The economic benefit extends beyond the Police Department
by boosting in a small way, purchases of commodities and services from our local
community.

TRAINING MATS

The Hawai'i Police Department on average conducts training for two (2) Recruit Classes
per year. In addition to the Recruit classes, the Department continues its Police Cadet
Program in three phases and re-training for our 432 sworn officers. Our full time training
staff and instructors are tasked with ensuring our officers are properly trained in various
areas of Law Enforcement, This includes Arrest Control Techniques, Wooden Baton,
Electronic Control Device, Firearms Instructors, OC Spray, and ASP Baton. The latter
requires the use of training mats to prevent injuries to our officers and provide adequate
shock absorption during physical training.

This project includes the purchase of 30 5' x 10' training mats at $400.00 a piece, having
an estimated cost of $12,000.00.
