<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> SCHEDULE A <br /> (PROSECUTORS TRAINING) <br /> (Project Number) <br /> <br /> <br /> glSSION/GOAL <br /> the mission/goal of the prosecutor's training project is to make our roads safer and improve the performance of the <br /> aw enforcement system in its efforts to enforce traffic laws by holding inter-agency meetings between police and <br /> )rosecutors and training deputy prosecuting attorneys in the conceptual, technical, scientific and trial aspects of <br /> hese offenses. <br /> <br /> STRATEGIES <br /> • Continuing to have a designated State wide Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor, who will coordinate traffic <br /> related training for prosecutors and police in the State of Hawaii and who be available to answer traffic <br /> related questions form other deputy prosecutors in the State of Hawaii. <br /> <br /> • Have the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor attend every traffic commanders meeting. <br /> • Have the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor and a deputy prosecutor who co-chairs the Governor's Highway <br /> Council attend the Lifesavers conference in Nashville, Tennessee in March of 2009 and other traffic related <br /> trainings and/or events. <br /> • Conduct a two-day state-wide training on Hawaii's DUI traffic laws with a focus on technological tools <br /> available for police in investigating traffic crimes, prosecutors in evaluating and presenting cases and the <br /> judiciary in sentencing of traffic crimes. <br /> • Train at least 20 deputy prosecutors who handle traffic cases from around the state. <br /> • Train police officers who handle traffic case from around the state. <br /> <br /> SOLUTION/IMPLEMENTATION <br /> • Implementation will include flying in at least 2 expert trainer/consultants from the mainland to help in the <br /> presentation of the trainings. <br /> • Implementation also includes flying in at least 2 experienced local trainers/consultants from the State of <br /> Hawaii, to help in the presentation of the training courses. <br /> • Implementation also includes flying in and housing at least 10 local deputy prosecutors from around the state <br /> to be trained. <br /> • Other expenses include flying deputy prosecutors to neighbor islands and the mainland to attend the Traffic <br /> Commanders meetings and the Lifesavers Conference. <br /> • Other expenses also include preparation of written materials and training room expenses. <br /> <br /> EVALUATION <br /> • The goal is to train at least 20 Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys from around the State of Hawaii and expose <br /> them to technological tools that are currently available in the prosecution of traffic crimes. The police <br /> officers in attendance will also be exposed to technology that is or will be available in the near future which <br /> can be used both during the investigation of traffic crimes and in the prosecution of traffic crimes. <br /> • Participants will fill out a survey designed to measure the benefits of the training process, the amount of <br /> information or knowledge gained as a result of their participation, the usefulness of the material covered, and <br /> the likelihood of such being applicable to cases they encounter- <br />
