In fiscal year <br />2006, the State of Hawaii appropriated $6 million to develop a potable water source for <br />the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. The County of Hawaii Department of Water Supply <br />(DWS) administered the contracts utilizing these funds. The first contract was to drill and <br />test an exploratory well, and the second one was to design and build the production <br />facilities. The current design and build contract includes a 100,000 gallon reinforced <br />concrete reservoir and 1 standpipe. However, this additional appropriation of $400,000.00 <br />will increase the reservoir size to 300,000 gallons and provide for an additional standpipe <br />for water haulers. These revisions will enhance the current design to allow for future <br />expansion of the water system. <br />Since the project's contract is ready to go, the Department of Public Works is requesting a <br />waiver from the Finance Committee and to have this bill heard at the next Council meeting <br />scheduled for October 7, 2009. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Public Works. <br />F �jJ <br />Nancy E.
