<br />COUNTY OF HAWAI'I <br /> <br /> <br />STATE OF HAWAI'I <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />291. 09 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER <br />INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAI'I DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORTATION, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A SECTION <br />5311 NON-URBANIZED FORMULA PROGRAM GRANT FOR THE <br />HAWAI'I COUNTY MASS TRANSIT AGENCY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of Hawai'i Department of Transportation has authorized a <br /> <br />Section 5311 Non-Urbanized Formula Program grant to the Hawai'i County Mass Transit <br /> <br />Agency; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this grant funding supplements those monies received under the Job <br /> <br />Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) Grant; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the JARC grant is intended to provide increased transportation <br /> <br />service for working commuters and for those seeking employment; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the funding provides for the operating costs to establish additional <br /> <br />routes and frequency of bus service, which include additional weekday and weekend <br /> <br />service; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these funds provided by the State of Hawai'j Department of <br /> <br />Transportation are derived from the Federal Transit Administration; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hawai'i Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county <br />departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal <br />or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers <br />granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in <br />connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. <br />
