Hawai'i 96720 <br /> Re: Operating Budget <br /> The State of Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention and Justice <br /> Assistance Division has authorized a $113,885 Hawai'i Narcotics Task Force - Recovery <br /> Act Grant to the Hawai'i County Police Department. The purpose of this grant is to disrupt <br /> the flow of narcotics via the apprehension of mid- to high- level dealers that are smuggling <br /> and distributing narcotics into and with the State of Hawai'i. The funding will be used to <br /> 1) maintain a narcotics task force of personnel from the,Hawai'i County Police Department, <br /> Maui Police Department, and Kauai Police Department, 2) increase knowledge of vice <br /> officers by providing training in such topics as narcotic investigations, current drug trends, <br /> smuggling and distribution techniques, and State/Federal laws that impact the task force, <br /> and 3) conduct quarterly meetings to coordinate joint operations and training, as well as <br /> other enforcement efforts, and to share information. The funds provided by the State of <br /> Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General are derived from the federal government's <br /> American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. <br /> Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of <br /> Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General for this grant. <br /> <br /> Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the <br /> $113,885 grant into the Hawai'i Narcotics Task Force - Recovery Act <br /> If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Hawai'i County Police Department. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Nancy E.
