AGING <br /> COMMITTEE ON PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES <br /> Program Description <br /> The Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities is a volunteer committee appointed <br /> by the Mayor to advise him/her on all matters related to people with disabilities. The <br /> committee's primary function is to review and make recommendations and provide <br /> guidelines to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities in the County of <br /> Hawai`i. <br /> Program Objectives <br /> 1. Continue to advise administration on issues facing people with disabilities. <br /> 2. Work with disabilities community to help improve education and public awareness. <br /> 3. Continue to improve accessibility of County facilities and programs for people with <br /> disabilities. <br /> Program Highlights <br /> 1. Held meetings in Hilo and Kona equally. <br /> 2. Communicated all public concerns brought to the committee by people with <br /> disabilities to the Mayor via ADA Coordinator or by letter. <br /> 3. Monitored volunteer parking enforcement program. <br /> 4. Members participated in DCAB meetings on State Emergency Preparedness Plan. <br /> 5. Continued to work with the County's Park and Recreation Department to increase <br /> inclusion of adults as well as children in programs. <br /> 6.
