Specific ORMP Management Goals /Strategic Actions to be <br />Implemented: As you will see, our project will assist the Slate in implementing <br />all 3 Perspectives of the Hawaii ORMP, 7 of 10 Management Goals and 15 of 28 <br />Strategic Actions, as follows: <br />Perspective 1 Connecting Land and Sea: Goal 1 Improve coastal water <br />quality by reducing land -based sources of pollution and restoring natural <br />habitats, Strategic Action 1 Reduce soil erosion from upland forest ecosystems <br />and conservation lands, Strategic Action 2 Reduce pollutant loads from <br />residential, agricultural, and commercial land uses in priority watersheds, <br />Strategic Action 3 Restore and protect wetlands, streams and estuaries; Goal 2 <br />Protect beaches, wetlands, and coastal communities from shoreline erosion and <br />other coastal hazards, Strategic Action 3 Encourage appropriate coastal - <br />dependent development that reduceslrisks from coastal hazards and protects <br />coastal and cultural resources. <br />Perspective 2 Preserving our Ocean Heritage: Goal 2 Improve the <br />health of coastal and ocean resources for sustainable traditional, subsistence, <br />recreational, and commercial uses, Strategic Action 1 Strengthen and expand <br />marine protected area management, Strategic Action 2 Develop ecosystem -based <br />approaches for nearshore fishegqies management, Strategic Action a Establish and <br />institutionalize approaches for festoring, operating, and preserving Hawaiian <br />coastal fishponds and salt ponds, Strategic Action 4 Improve enforcement <br />capacity and voluntary compliance with existing rules and regulations for ocean <br />resource protection, Strategic Action 5 Enhance the conservation of Hawaii's <br />marine protected species, unique habitats and biological diversity; Goal 3 <br />Enhance public access and appropriate coastal dependent uses of the shoreline, <br />Strategic Action 1 Enhance and restore existing public shoreline access and scenic <br />vistas, Strategic Action 2 Establish new shoreline areas for public and appropriate <br />coastal dependent uses; Goal 4 Promote appropriate and responsible ocean <br />recreation and tourism that provide culturally informed and environmentally <br />sustainable uses for visitors and residents, Strategic Action 2 Promote <br />responsible and sustainable ocean -based tourism. <br />Perspective R Promoting Collaboration and Stewardship: Goal 1 <br />Apply integrated and place -based approaches to the management of natural and <br />cultural resources, Strategic Action 1 Develop integrated natural and cultural <br />resources planning process and standardized tools, Strategic Action 2 Build <br />capacity for community participation in natural and cultural resources <br />management; Goal 2 Institutionalize integrated natural and cultural resources <br />management, Strategic Action 2 Monitor and evaluate ORMP implementation. <br />i.
