COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 343 10 <br />1 <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF <br />AGREEMENT WITH STATE OF HAWAII STATE CIVIL DEFENSE TO PROVIDE <br />FUNDING RELATED TO TSUNAMI WARNINGS. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII. <br />WHEREAS, the County of Hawai`i recognizes the critical importance of tsunami <br />warning and information; and <br />WHEREAS, State of Hawai`i, State Civil Defense, hereinafter "State Civil Defense" and <br />the County of Hawai`i Civil Defense Agency, hereinafter "CDA ", in recognition of the <br />importance of tsunami warning and information, seek to collaborate on a project to further <br />identify and mark Tsunami Evacuation Zones on the island of Hawai`i through the proposed <br />Memorandum of Agreement (see Exhibit A attached hereto); and <br />WHEREAS, the memorandum of agreement proposes that the State Civil Defense will <br />provide up to $20,000.00 to CDA to purchase markers and signs to identify Tsunami Evacuation <br />Zones; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Hawai`i Revised Statutes (HRS) Section 46 -7, the Hawai`i <br />County Council may consent to agreements between the County and the State government <br />respecting action to be taken pursuant to the powers granted to the County by law and to furnish, <br />expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects to be undertaken <br />by the County. <br />
