COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 346 10 <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER <br />INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, <br />PURSUANT TO HRS 46 -7, FOR THE FY 2009 ASSISTANCE TO <br />FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FOR THE HAWAII FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through its FY 2009 <br />Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, has authorized funding to the Hawaii Fire <br />Department; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is to <br />protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire - <br />related hazards; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of this grant is to provide for firefighter safety through <br />the provision of appropriate and standard compliant personal protective equipment; and <br />WHEREAS, along with the County's share, the funds will be used to purchase <br />replacement turn -out coats and pants for the fire personnel; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46 -7, requires that county <br />departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal <br />or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers <br />granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in <br />connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. <br />
