The DEM intends <br /> to continue providing green waste drop -off sites at Recycling and Transfer Stations for the <br /> convenience of residents, including Kailua -Kona. Through research of the industry, we <br /> have detemined that a multi -year contract is necessary to enable return on investment, <br /> and a ten (10) year contract will provide the best opportunity for cost - effective organics <br /> diversion and compost operations. Establishing organics diversion sites and compost <br /> operations are a necessary step towards banning organics from the landfill by 2012, as <br /> requested in the adopted Council Resolution No. 826 -08. <br /> If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of <br /> Environmental Management. <br /> ) G 64 <br /> Nancy E.
