BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The purpose of the subject grant is for the Department of Public Works (DPW) to assist the Hawaii Police <br /> Department (HPD) with purchasing GPS units to be used for crash location reporting. HPD currently does <br /> not use GPS for crash location reporting. The reason for DPW's involvement in this project and our push for <br /> more accurate crash location information is the Traffic Division's desire to proactively implement safety <br /> improvement projects based on crash frequency, rate, and trend information. The plan is for DPW to <br /> purchase 100 GPS units for HPD.
