COUNTY OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. STATE OF HAWAII 61 11 RESOLUTION ADOPTING AND SUPPORTING THE 2010 COUNTY OF HAWAII AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT PLAN WHEREAS, Article XI, Section 3 of the Hawaii State Constitution calls for the conservation and protection of agricultural lands, the promotion of diversified agriculture, increased agricultural self-sufficiency, and the assurance of the availability of agriculturally suitable lands; and WHEREAS, the County of Hawai' i has responsibility and authority to take action to assist the expansion of the agricultural industry through the protection of important agricultural lands, capital improvements and other programs, and continued cooperation with appropriate state and federal agencies, as reflected in the Hawai' i County General Plan; and WHEREAS, agriculture, in all its various industries and products, is a critical component and major contributor to the economy of the County of Hawaii and will continue to be the stabilizing foundation of the local economy for the foreseeable future; and WHEREAS, the Hawai' i County Council recognizes the economic and cultural contribution of the agriculture community and finds that there is a need for a well-defined plan for Hawaii County's agriculture industry that provides direction for Hawai'i County government to institute and adopt legislation and programs that will insure the economic viability and sustainability of Hawai' i Island's agriculture industry; and WHEREAS, the 2010 County of Hawai' i Agriculture Development Plan, which was designed to glean maximum input from both the segment of the community engaged in agriculture activities and from the community at large, incorporates relevant agricultural policies and recommended actions that can be accomplished by the County government, either through direct implementation or advocacy; and
