COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />BILL NO. 56 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18, ARTICLE 4, OF THE HAWAII <br />COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO PUBLIC <br />TRANSIT SYSTEM, ISLAND -WIDE FARE STRUCTURE. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br />SECTION 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to amend Chapter 18, Article 4, <br />Public Transit System, Island -Wide Fare Structure, of the Hawaii County Code. The <br />amendment of this article will extend the Kokua Zone termination date until June 30, 2012. <br />SECTION 2. Chapter 18, article 4, division 1, section 18-90 of the Hawaii County <br />Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), is amended to read as follows: <br />"Section 18-90. Fares. <br />Every person using the mass transit service owned, maintained or operated by the County <br />shall be charged the fares set out in the following schedules: <br />(a) Hilo-Hamakua-Waimea-Kohala-Kona. <br />For one-way travel within each zone set out in fare schedule A, a base cash fare of 75 cents <br />will be collected. For one-way travel between any two zones, the cash fare to be collected is <br />set out in fare schedule A in section 18-92. <br />(b) Hilo-Puna-Ka`u. <br />For one-way travel within each zone set out in fare schedule B, a base cash fare of 75 cents <br />will be collected. For one-way travel between any two zones, the fare to be collected is set <br />out in fare schedule B in section 18-92. <br />(c) Fare prepayment discount. <br />All tickets for travel between the points set out in above schedules can be prepurchased at a <br />discount of ten percent off the scheduled cash fare. The monthly bus pass fare plan shall be <br />based upon individual issuance of bus passes for travel within and between designated zones <br />set out in the above schedules upon payment of the designated monthly bus fares to the mass <br />transit agency. The ten percent discount in this paragraph shall not apply to the demand <br />response fare. <br />(d) Fare prepayment discount for senior citizens, handicapped persons and students. <br />All tickets for travel by senior citizens, handicapped persons and students, between the <br />points set out in the above schedules, can be prepurchased at a discount of thirty-three and <br />one-third percent off the scheduled cash fare. The monthly bus pass fare plan shall be based <br />upon individual issuance of bus passes for travel within and between designated zones set <br />
