No. 226 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:30 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Comm. No. 226, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 226, from Mayor William Kenoi, dated May 27, 2011, requests confirmation <br /> of the appointment of Mr. Wayne Joseph to the County of Hawai`i Board of Appeals. Mr. Joseph is <br /> a 63 -year resident of Hawai`i. He presently is employed as a sports writer at Stephens Media Group <br /> and is executive director of the Big Island Marathon. <br /> Mr. Joseph has been a past member of the County of Hawai`i's Cost of Government Commission <br /> and Board of Ethics. He states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will <br /> fill a term to expire on December 31, 2011, replacing Kelly Ann Soo, who resigned. Since <br /> Mr. Joseph will be serving a remaining term that is less than two years, he will be eligible to <br /> succeed himself for an additional full term of five years. <br /> Executive Assistant to the Mayor Charmaine Shigemura was present and explained that Mr. Joseph <br /> is off island until the end of June, 2011. <br /> Councilmember Ford confirmed that Mr. Joseph had been on the Board of Ethics. <br /> Councilmember Smart stated that she has known Mr. Joseph for a number of years and is in support <br /> of his nomination. <br /> Councilmember Blas stated that he has worked with Mr. Joseph on Puna area projects and he is in <br /> support of his nomination. <br /> Councilmember Yagong stated that Mr. Joseph votes in what he believes to be fair and he supports <br /> his nomination. <br /> PC Rept.
